Meet the Cast and Crew of A Party to Murder

Cindy Cavanaugh

Cindy is yet another familiar face to the Waynesboro Stage, having started as a Nun in "Sound of Music", and following this up with participating in "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Crazy for You", "Calamity Jane", "Seussical the Musical", and "Big River". Not only a valued member of the WP board, but she also has directed for the Players, notably "Anything Goes".  Who would have thought an invitation from a friend to see "Lil Abner" would have sparked such interest in community theater!

Cindy is a wife of 20 years to show co-producer Craig Cavanaugh and a mother to 2 wonderful teens (Carissa & Corey), and a dog (Max) and a cat (Pepper). While not working as a pharmacy tech at Wal-Mart, she enjoys pursuing her passion of creating theater for our audience to enjoy and relish!

Craig Cavanaugh

Probably the hardest working man in Waynesboro AND with the Waynesboro Players!! Craig is a multitude of backstage talent, proficient in set construction, realization, lighting , sound, producing, props, you name it! The only thing we haven't been able to do yet is get him in front of the curtain! Married to Cindy Cavanaugh (see her cast bio), Craig also is the driving force behind Mystic Music, a phenomenal DJ service for all types of social and special events. (He's in the phone book, call him!!)

Craig is not only a valued WP board member, but can be found down at the Players warehouse keeping things up to snuff. Employed at Alcoa, even working nite shift doesn't deter Craig from helping bring quality theater to our community! Craig is a pleasure to work with, and always seem to be cheerful and upbeat!

Craig and his wife Cindy are already in the planning stages of co-producing the WP 2nd show of the season, "Odd Couple - Female Version." Whatta Guy!!!

Matt Coiner

As soon as we can get Matt to hold still, we'll get his picture for you to enjoy! Although this might be Matt's first initiation into directing a Waynesboro Players show, he is by far no stranger to the Players! Having been in a multitude of productions, Matt's smiling face and friendly personality is always a delight both onstage and offstage. More details to follow, check back soon!!!

Gary Flavin

Gary is no stranger to the Waynesboro Players, having performed in a multitude of performances such as "My Fair Lady", "Deathtrap", "The Rainmaker", and the list goes on and on. Also found onstage at Oak Grove Theater, he has performed in many shows including "Educating Rita", "Same Time Next Year", "Tribute", "The Impossible Marriage", and just recently directed "Steel Magnolias".

Gary became involved in community theater in the early '70s,  and considers himself "a mature man in his 50's who should have been a "star" by now with plenty of money to burn! Gary is retired from teaching at VSDB for 31 years and can now be found at the Pampered Palate in Staunton.

What does Gary want you, our audience to know about him? That he truly loves acting, and hope he is still doing it when he is in a wheelchair. Also, that his pants falling down in "Anything Goes" was truly a wardrobe malfunction and not a cheap way to steal the show and hog the attention onstage!

Den Frumen

Den is another newcomer for the Waynesboro Players, professing that he did not do much theater in his younger days. He credits his wife for getting him started a few years back, acting with the Davies Players in Camp Springs, MD, until relocating here. He has also been seen onstage in 2005 at Oak Grove Theater.

Den and his wife moved to Staunton 2 years ago, and love their new home. Den is mostly retired, enjoying himself by participating in the local arts community......music, art, theater, and writing. He is a singer/songwriter who also is known to "pen" a play, and credits his successful theater participation to always seeming to "look the part"!

Be on the watch for Den to "look the part" in many more Waynesboro Players and Oak Grove shows!!

Leigh Harrison

Leigh is another familiar face to both the Waynesboro Players and Oak Grove Theater. She recently wowed the audience with her performance in Grove's "Steel Magnolias" and has acted with many other theater organizations in the area. Leigh played the annoying cheerleader in "Grease" at age 17, took a 7 year hiatus and came back at age 24 to do this show. She claims she will be disappearing and reappearing at age 31! On a sidenote, she has also danced on both the Jay Leno Stage and the Hollywood Squares stage. (How did she keep from falling out of the square?)

Leigh describes herself as no-nonsense, hard-working, and high strung, but loves Dr. Pepper, fuzzy socks, and those "mushroom" things at Outback Steakhouse. She is a mild-mannered 5th grade teacher by day, but at night dons her tights and cape and becomes a savvy superhero!

Judith H. Johnson

Judith admits that being Aunt to Director Matt didn't come into play volunteering to help out! She and Matt share a close relationship and work well together, so it's only natural for them to be working on this show as a team. Judith, a native of Waynesboro, has always had a love and interest in the performing arts, and has participated in many musical performances at WHS as well as church & chorus. Judith collects celtic instruments , and plays the bowed psaltery, hammer dulcimer, celtic folk harp, and Irish tin whistle. This lady knows how to party!!!!

Judith is married to Rusty Johnson, having celebrated their 35th anniversary. Family includes a grown daughter and 2 grandsons that she is helping raise. Currently employed by REMax Advantage and Suzie Coiner, she designs ads, ad copies, maintains the website, and contributes articles and graphic design work to the "Tree Streets Gazette."

Charlie Lawson

No stranger to the Waynesboro Players, Charlie has been involved with the group for over 30 years now. Currently President of the organization, he can be found hiding out backstage, at the warehouse, or on the phone rounding up volunteers or items needed for a show! Very rarely will you see him in front of the curtain, and only in a bit part. (Especially since he can't remember more than 3 lines without panicking!).
Charlie willingly tells people that seeing him onstage is like seeing Haley's Comet....you might see it once in your lifetime!

Married to Barbara Spilman Lawson, who is also no stranger to the Players, you can begin to understand that they seem to have a good working theatrical relationship. Barb loves being in front of the curtain, Charlie loves being behind the curtain. Watch for their daughter, Jenni, 13, to become increasingly involved with the Players! Hmmmm...... onstage or backstage, onstage or backstage, which will she choose???

Charlie owns and operates CJBuggs Import Repair in Fishersville, where you will find him on weekdays covered in grease with busted knuckles repairing and restoring cars, but on nights and weekends he sometimes cleans up nicely and makes the theater scene! Just goes to show that any farm raised, country boy, greasy mechanic, Dad, Husband, etc., can be a member of community theater and the performing arts! A love of theater and community are the only requirements.

Kevin Moore

Kevin is a relative newcomer to the Players, and we always welcome new talent!! While he states that  playing Willy isn't much of a stretch for him, since he is always friendly, funny, and often inebriated enough where a wheelchair (Willy's character's transportation) might be an asset, his talent and love of theater become apparent when he hits the stage. His most memorable past theater experience was his high school production of "The Robber Bridegroom".

Kevin's goal in life is "to do little as possible", which realistically might not be a bad goal. To try to not be stressed out by the daily chore of living, and to enjoy the good moments and bring cheer and happiness to others. Watch for Kevin to become more of a regular stage presence with the Players!

Holly R. Schumann

Holly is another fresh face for the Waynesboro Players, having debuted with the group by showing her amazing talents with makeup. Mentored by our own Becky Price (makeup person deluxe and board member), Holly has quickly moved from behind the curtains to in front of the curtains. Other than some theater participation in high school, she has managed to hide her talents well! Holly joins us by way of Orlando, Florida, having moved to the area and fallen in love with the valley.

Holly has found acting is her passion, that creating and bringing life to a character not only gives you joy inside by doing so, but by working together with other actors, stage crew, and a wonderful director (Is Director Matt Coiner blushing?), together you can create something wonderful that people will enjoy and take the wonderful creative feeling and happiness with them when leaving the theater.
